Mean Time

2013
London
The Prime Meridian lies adjacent to the Greenwich Peninsula; an invisible line not discovered, but designated as the temporal origin of global timekeeping. That this ground once housed one of the largest gas works in Europe, and that the first transatlantic telegraph cables was manufactured at Enderby's Wharf just yards from the river, lends it a historical weight entirely at odds with its present appearance. Whilst industry has departed, its replacement has not yet arrived, and the meridian's assurance of a fixed point feels more like a question than an answer.

The series moves between the remnants of a layered past and the uncertainties of the present; gasholders, aggregate yards, decaying wharves and unfinished paths are framed by Canary Wharf's completed reinvention across the water throughout. The river holds both shores in permanent proximity and separation: one side reliable, established and capitalised; the other still in mean time, measured against a future that has not yet arrived.
