Liverpool
The buildings of Regent Road tell two related stories: port infrastructure built at considerable scale, and the pubs, cafés and small businesses that served the people who worked within it. Each depended on the other, and the dysfunction of one has left both without purpose, the monumental and the modest equally diminished in the absence of what the other once provided. What remains is a residue: the slack between tides, a place suspended between what it was and what it might yet become.

Dock infrastructure, steel silos and Victorian brick warehouses sit alongside the smaller commercial remnants of a working life now largely withdrawn. Liverpool's docklands declined sharply through the 1970s and 1980s as containerisation hollowed out the port economy, and while regeneration transformed parts of the waterfront, this stretch has yet to feel the benefit. Textures, remnant signage and the layered evidence of trade and social life remain legible across its facades.
